Who I am and where the product came from?
Hi, my name is Amy Lovegrove, I am a childcare expert and company director at Nurturing Hands. I have high level experience and qualifications in psychology and child and family support, I have successfully launched and developed a thriving organisation.
Last year there were 723,165 live births in England and Wales (taken from the Office for National statistics). There is an extensive body of research demonstrating a significant association between attachment and children's functioning across multiple domains. Securely attached babies are more likely to become socially, emotionally and psychologically competent. Relationships formed with peers influence the acquisition of social skills, intellectual development and the formation of social identity. An early secure attachment appears to have a lasting protective function.
In addition to these findings, due to the Ofsted report released in October 2009 by Cornwall council highlighting a lack of capacity within the health service means they are unable to fully engage in health education and health prevention work with families. Therefore leaving a significant shortfall in the provision of preventative health support to families. In November 2009 Nurturing Hands was formed.
Nurturing Hands is a charity that provides support to families across Cornwall, through our Baby Massage, Baby Academy, Toddler Academy and other educational services and workshops. Parents can meet on a regular basis to reduce isolation, depression and ultimately meet other people going through similar situations. We provide parents with the information, advice and guidance they need to enhance their skills and confidence as a parent, which in turn will improve positive outcomes for themselves and their future generations.
In 2 years we have received over £120,000 in Public funding, which has enabled over 3000 people to benefit from our services.
Parents are enjoying learning the massage techniques in our baby massage classes and wanting to be able to continue these in the comfort of their own homes, especially so that partners and siblings could be part of the experience too. We therefore developed a massage kit which contained everything needed to carry out the massage within the class and at home. We were amazed at how popular these kits were within the classes and found that people were buying them as gifts for friends too. Attending local Baby Shows and Christmas Fairs also brought us great sales and provided us with some of our essential market research showing us that people would buy into our concept. From this initial success we decided to launch our very own Baby Massage Kit.
So today I would like to introduce to you the Nurturing Hands Baby Massage Kit and Sleep Aid.
Families the world over will rejoice at the news that there is something which can not only relax, calm and soothe their baby but can also help get their baby to sleep and stay asleep for longer.
The Nurturing Hands Baby Massage Kit, has been developed by a team at Nurturing Hands with the help of a team of experienced professionals, including Amy Charman, a Product Designer at aCADmy with over 12 years of experience working within the toy and play sectors, providing design and realisation consultancy to leading industry providers.
The Nurturing Hands Baby Massage Kit includes:
● A tailored Baby Massage Mat with pockets containing
● 50ml bottle of Organic Sunflower with Vitamin E Massage Oil
● A Nurturing Hands Massage Strokes booklet
● The Nurturing Hands Sleep Aid
The kits are available in a range of stylish designs, reflecting a retro/vintage feel. A mix of modern colours intertwined with this theme, enhance the collection making it adaptable and versatile for use within any family home.
We wanted the final product to be pretty on the eye, appealing to not only the baby but the parents and anyone else who may potentially buy the kit as a gift, such as grandparents or friends. As Kath Kidston, vintage, retro and shabby chic have become popular, we wanted them to have this feel.
Printed on a crisp 100% cotton base cloth, the simplicity of the coordinating designs combined with the much loved colours of Powder Blue, Sage and Taupe make these colours perfect for a baby massage mat.

The Nurturing Hands Massage Strokes
A set of unique strokes are displayed on the card for the parents to copy and repeat on their baby. The strokes come in an easy to use binder, where the strokes can be pulled out and in easily, when the next stroke is required. They come on 300mm thick card which is matt laminated so that any spillages that occur can be easily wiped away.
Nurturing Hands Baby Massage Music & Demonstration DVD
On purchasing the mat, the customer will be given a Unique Reference Number (URN) which will enable them to access our website where there will be a demonstration DVD of how to carry out the Massage techniques. This will also link the customer back to our website where they will discover all the other information, support and advice they can receive around parenting issues.
Nurturing Hands have also developed our own copyrighted music which has been designed to calm and soothe both the baby and the person carrying out the massage. Babies will be mesmerised by the sounds; gentle harmonies will soothe them. The music uses adagio and lento (slow) movements and pieces with light densities of orchestration, such as acoustic guitar solos and harp and flute duets. These will help to calm an uncomfortable baby and help your baby sleep. It is also easier on the nervous system of a tired parent and child as the sound source is uncomplicated and takes less energy to process.
